The Judith Meppem Nursing and Midwifery Scholarships
July 22, 2010 – 4:18 pmMs Judith Meppem was the first Chief Nursing Officer in New South Wales and held this role from 1990 to 2002. Having had a long and distinguished career as a nurse she understood the importance of ongoing learning for the nursing and midwifery professions. As the Chief Nurse, Judith championed the need for NSW Health to provide learning opportunities for our nurses and midwives. The Judith Meppem Scholarships are about providing nurses and midwives with an opportunity to observe and learn about innovative and best practice in nursing and or midwifery. The study tour can be applied to all areas of nursing and midwifery practice including clinical, education and management.

My name is Mr. Balcha Berhanu. I am an Ethiopian who has Masters degree in Reproductive Health Nursing. I am a lecturer as well as the unit head of the midwifery school under Addis Ababa University. The school has recently started masters program in Reproductive Health Nursing, Maternity nursing, and Adult nursing programs. However, it does not have lecturers who has Phd in any of the field to teach these students. We can say masters are teaching students for masters degree. The problem is on getting the chance of PhD scholarship due to lack of fund. I want to do my PhD study or else if not available to do this to have some more training in related fields with full support with fund that can cover living expenses, research, transportation, and others. The reason is here in Ethiopia there is no program to study at PhD degree level and I can not cover expenses. As eveybody knows also the country is very poor to send students abroad by covering the expenses. If anyone feels what I am feeling, please, use my email address and extend hands to fulfil my ambition of the study that can help my students inturn to give them more training in their masters degree.
Thank You Very Much
