February 12, 2008 – 12:26 pm

PhD Studentships – Non Commercial areas of Law

The Department of Law is able to offer 4 fully-funded PhD postgraduate research studentships to research students for 2008/09 entry. The studentships cover tuition fees (home or overseas fees) and a maintenance grant of £14,000 per year. Subject to satisfactory annual progress reports, the award can be held for three years, though the holder will be expected to apply for other sources of funding where applicable. The studentships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence and financial need. Applications will be considered in any field of Law in which the Department is able to provide appropriate supervision.

Deadline
The closing date for applications for the Studentships is May 1st. Decisions will be made and offers sent out on May 29th 2008. (application form)

PhD applications can take considerable time to process. It is, therefore, strongly advisable to submit an application for admission as early as possible in order to receive an admission decision before the studentship deadline.

Applicants should apply for admission to the College as a research student in the normal way by sending an email to lawsresearch@qmul.ac.uk, g.skehan@qmul.ac.uk or j.claydon@qmul.ac.uk for an application form and prospectus or by downloading the application form.

Before applying, it is important to check that there is a member of staff available with the appropriate expertise to supervise the research. Details of staff research interests can be found on the Academic Staff pages.

Academics are generally happy to look at a proposal sent by email before a formal application is made, in order to ascertain whether they are in a position to supervise if an offer is made.
It is important that applicants indicate that they wish to be considered for a Queen Mary Studentship (on page 3 of their application form).
PhD Studentships – Commercial areas of Law

CCLS will normally make several annual Studentship Awards for payment of fees and maintenance for students registering for full time PhD study in a commercial area of law. These awards are highly competitive and cover fees for the three year minimum period of study for the degree of PhD, as well as paying an amount towards living expenses.

Only full time students with an agreed offer of study are eligible to apply and should indicate their interest on the study application form.
