MTEC Scholarships for Promising Students and Public Health Professionals

Approximately 15 full scholarships are available for the M.Sc. programme in Public Health as offered by the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences of Maastricht University in close cooperation with the Netherlands School of Public and Occupational Health (Amsterdam). The scholarships are intended for the academic year 2008/2009 and made available by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

The M.Sc. Programme in Public Health

The M.Sc. Public Health at Maastricht University provides a rigorous academic training that emphasizes the acquisition of essential analytical skills and conceptual knowledge to understand the complexities of the public health domain.

Students choose one of five specialisations:
a) Epidemiology
b) Health Education and Promotion
c) Health Policy, Economics and Management
d) Health Services Innovation
e) Work and Health

The M.Sc. Public Health is a one-year full-time programme, and taught in English. Essential elements within the programme are provided by the Netherlands School of Public and Occupational Health.

Coverage of the MTEC Scholarship

The MTEC scholarship covers tuition fee, study materials, housing, subsistence, travel to and from the home country, a personal development programme (including Action Learning) and a social programme.

Purpose of the MTEC Scholarships

The MTEC scholarships are intended for promising students from states which either have just acceded the European Union or will do so in the near future and those which border the extended Union both in the East and in the South. In this way the Netherlands wishes to contribute to the enhancement of strategic cooperation and partnerships on the basis of the core values which are shared by the EU: human rights, democracy and the rule of law.

 

Who May Apply for an MTEC Scholarship?

The MTEC scholarships are intended for both promising students and public health professionals, that is, those who have completed a bachelor degree in public health, the health sciences or an associated domain and have started their career in a relevant field of work.

 

Preconditions MTEC Scholarship

The MTEC scholarships are meant for students and residents of the aforementioned countries who completed their BSc with flying colours and who satisfy the criteria for admission to the MSc Public Health programme as offered by the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences from Maastricht University.
Public health professionals are required to submit proof of their employee to study for at least ten months abroad and be issued with a guarantee that they can take up their position upon return.
Prospective students need to have completed a bachelor degree in public health, the health sciences or an associated domain, reside in the relevant states at the time of application, and have a TOEFL score of at least 213 on the computer-based test; or 550 on the paper-based test, or a satisfactory score on a similar test, for example, at least 6.5 on an IELTS test. Potential students should not be older than 35 years.

 

How to apply for an MTEC Scholarship for Promising Students and Public Health Professionals?

Prospective students need to follow two procedures:

  1. Candidates should apply through the website of EVD/CROSS (www.cross-agency.nl) and consecutively send their printed application form to the Royal Netherlands Embassy in their country.
  2. Admission and Registration to the M.Sc. in Public Health Programme
    Prospective students have to go through the regular admission procedure of Maastricht University.

    All applicant dossiers will be reviewed and assessed by the Board of Admissions of the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences at Maastricht University.

Applicants who already have been admitted to the M.Sc. Public Health programme by the Board of Admissions of the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences, are invited to apply for an MTEC scholarship by using the application form which is available at the website of CROSS Agency.
