Graduate Assistantships in Percussion - University of Arkansas

Starting Date:  August 1, 2008

RESPONSIBILITIES:

-  Teach and assist with direction and coordination of the battery percussion section of the Razorback Marching Band.

-  Arrange music and technique development exercises for the battery section of the Razorback Marching Band. 

-  Assist with teaching of undergraduate percussion majors and non-major applied lessons.

-  Assist in coordination of percussion ensembles, including directing and arranging opportunities with steel band program.

-  Perform in and assist in supervising the percussion sections of large performance ensembles.

-  Assist with instruction of percussion methods courses.

-  Assist in maintenance and inventory management of all percussion equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

-  Bachelors degree in music, with an emphasis in percussion.

-  Previous teaching experience at the high school or university level in marching percussion, percussion ensemble, and steel band are highly preferred, but not required.

-  On campus audition and interview are preferred, but alternate arrangements can be made.

DEGREES OFFERED:

-  M.M. in performance, music education, composition, theory, instrumental and choral conducting, and music history.

STIPEND:

-  $7000 per academic year and waiver of both in and out-of-state tuition.  Miscellaneous fees and other expenses are the responsibility of the student. Assistantships are renewable for up to four semesters, assuming satisfactory performance.
