Graduate Assistantship in Band - University of Texas Arlington

For 2008 – 2009


Responsibilities: Assist with teaching and administrative aspects of the total band program.  Primary conducting responsibilities with the University Band and Basketball Band. Manage instrument inventory. Perform in the Wind Ensemble each semester. Conducting opportunities with the UTA Wind Ensemble and Concert Band as assigned.  Additional duties as required by the needs of the department.


Stipend: $6500 (approx.) for the 9-month academic year (September-May), and a benefits package. 


Tuition and fees: Waiver for out-of-state tuition and fees.


Benefits: A benefits package that includes medical, life, accidental death and dismemberment insurance is also provided. At the present time, half of the cost of these benefits is paid by the state; coverage begins 90 days after the first day of employment. Optional vision and dental insurance is available for a small fee.


Renewal: Renewal is based on an annual review of the Graduate Students academic performance, performance of assigned duties, needs of the department, and available funds.


Application Deadline: May 1, 2008. Assistantships are contingent upon prior acceptance to The Graduate School, but we will consider your application while admission is pending.

The Department of Music: The University of Texas at Arlington Department of Music, consisting of over 300 music majors and 46 full-time and adjunct faculty, offers the graduate degree Master of Music with a concentration in Music Education.  A flexible degree plan offers the graduate student an opportunity to mold the curriculum to their individual interests. 


The Bands at UTA: The bands at UT Arlington consist of three concert ensembles, marching band and basketball pep band. The Wind Ensemble has performed at Carnegie Hall and TMEA and CBDNA conferences. The Marching Band is one of only a handful of college marching bands without football responsibilities and tours the region annually.
